Why the tax is inside the price, and what CGST, SGST and IGST actually mean on your bill.
Indian retail prices are quoted including GST. The tax is not added at the end; it is already inside the number on the label.
Extracting, not adding
For an item priced at ₹1,180 at 18% GST, the taxable value is ₹1,000 and the tax is ₹180. The formula is tax = price × rate ÷ (100 + rate).

The totals are identical either way. Which halves appear depends only on whether the delivery crosses a state line.
